Kick that CAM, Kick that CAM.... :-)

On Monday, January 26, 2009 the great doctors at Children's Hospital in Aurora were successful in removing the lower lobe from Dylan's right lung. We are into our second day in the hospital and the little man is doing great. He had no idea what was coming yesterday... and thankfully, won't have any recollection of the surgery.

We arrived at Children's at 12:30, driving through a nice Colorado blizzard it took a little longer than expected. Just in time, however, to get Dylan into his tiny hospital gown.

Still practicing to roll over. Dylan will no doubt learn this trick before Cooper ;-)

The family anxiously awaiting. Dylan is more interested in his fingers.

Dylan finally figured out that all this attention meant that they were about to take him away from his Mom's arms.

Pre-surgery (nice abs):

A bit hard to see, but wanted to show all you medically-minded Friends of Dylan the inner workings. Here you can see the middle lobe above, and lower lobe which was removed. The doctor noted that it was visually evident that there was something wrong with the lower lobe (different color and texture). They are sending it to biopsy to confirm that it is indeed a CCAM, and to hopefully give us some comfort that 2 spots identified on the left lung are not of great concern. We will continue to monitor over the coming months, so Dylan will be very familiar with the CT Scan here at Children's.

Post-surgery, and drug induced:

A better look at the chest tube. This, among other things, caused some great discomfort last night. We've never heard Dylan scream so loud, and yet so soft as his little voice was hoarse from the breathing tube.

We are very pleased to report that he is back to his old self... smiling, trying to laugh, and keeping us all entertained.

He of course has been enjoying his naps!

Thanks again to everyone who sent positive thoughts, prayers, and other good energy Dylan's way over the past few days. We know it helped him, but more importantly, it helped Mom and Dad get through it a little easier. We'll continue to keep everyone posted and will post more pictures as we get home and settled.

.... and a Happy New Year!

We have been very busy lately and have neglected our picture posting for too long! Here are a few additions:

Dylan enjoying time with Uncle Tristan and Aunt Tabby (aka Aunt Frank!)

Cousins Arwyn and Alianna are the best, and Dylan enjoyed every minute of their visit!

It's hard not to have fun with Dad. That dude's hilarious :-)

Thanks Uncle Jeff, Aunt Amy, and Cousin Owen for the best toy ever. This thing rocks, and tastes pretty good too!

Figuring things out...

Just realized that he's wearing a Dartmouth shirt... whaaaaat? Go State! Unless of course that college fund takes a miraculous turn.

Hmmmm, but all my peeps from Dartmouth are pretty cool.

Goes without saying...

Miss you all. Dylan can't wait to see you all again soon (and for the first time for some of you).

For those that don't know, Dylan will be checking into Children's Hospital in Aurora on January 26 to have the CCAM removed from his right lung. A bit earlier than his parents were anticipating, but we know this is really the best situation possible. Having spotted the CCAM in utero was a blessing as we were able to monitor and get the thing out of there while the lungs are still developing. It's only a matter of time until Dylan is outrunning / outclimbing / outriding his parents... and we can't wait!

Please send positive thoughts and we'll be sure to post upon his return home. For those in Denver, we think a Diaphragmatic Lobectomy party is only appropriate... maybe play a good game of kick the CAM ;-)

Merry Christmas!!

Dylan was getting into the spirit early... toughing it out shirtless on a cold December day! (Don't worry, Nona... the heater was cranked).

Dylan got to meet his cousins Alianna and Arwyn for the first time this past week. He's not sure what to make of all the attention, but seems to be having a great time!

This Christmas thing is pretty serious...

Dylan enjoyed opening gifts with family!

Sporting some new shoes :-)

Getting sleepy...

Cousin Arwyn enjoyed reading bedtime stories to Dylan!

Dylan relaxed with Mom by the Christmas tree!

Playing with Papa... Ho Ho Ho!

Celebrating Justin!

Wishing our little Dylan could have met Uncle Justin in person. He was truly a great friend, and will never be forgotten. Happy Birthday, Friend.... we miss you.

Uncle Max... Dylan can't wait until you babysit!

One and only, Uncle E...

Uncle E and Aunt Jules... Dylan learning how to block out the flash!

Dylan loves Aunt Jules :-)

Linda and Doug... Thank you so much for tonight. Wishing we had captured more pictures, but the memories we all share of Justin will last forever. We will never forget!

Election Day!

We hope you all exercised your right to vote. Dylan participated, but wasn't overly optimistic on the outcome.
